Who We Are

Tournament Parent (tournamentparent.com) is a content website for families navigating the chaos of youth sports.

Affiliate Disclosure

Tournament Parent is reader-supported. Some links on this site are affiliate links — meaning if you click through and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission at no additional cost to you.

Amazon Associates: As an Amazon Associate, Tournament Parent earns from qualifying purchases. Tournament Parent is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.

Other affiliate networks: We also participate in affiliate programs with retailers and brands through networks including (but not limited to) Awin, ShareASale, Impact Radius, CJ Affiliate, and direct partnerships with select brands. When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the network records that the referral came from our site so we can be credited.

We only recommend products we believe are useful to our readers. Affiliate revenue helps keep the site running and content free.

Information We Collect

We collect information in three ways:

1. Information you provide directly

  • Comments: Name, email, optional website URL, and the comment itself.
  • Contact emails: Anything you send us via email.
  • Newsletter signups (if/when we offer one): Email address and any name you provide.

2. Information collected automatically

  • Server logs: IP address, browser type, device type, pages visited, referring site, and timestamps.
  • Cookies: Small files stored in your browser to remember preferences (see Cookies section below).
  • Security scans: Our security plugin (Wordfence) logs IP addresses, user agents, and login attempts to detect and block malicious traffic.

3. Information from third parties

  • Affiliate networks: When you click an affiliate link and make a purchase, the affiliate network may share aggregated, non-identifying conversion data with us (such as commission earned).
  • Analytics services: If we use analytics platforms (such as Google Analytics), they may collect anonymized usage data on our behalf.

How We Use Information

We use collected information to:

  • Display and moderate comments
  • Detect and prevent spam, abuse, and security threats
  • Track which content performs well so we can publish more of what readers find useful
  • Attribute affiliate referrals so partners can pay us correctly
  • Respond to direct inquiries
  • Improve site performance

We do not sell or rent your personal information to anyone.

Cookies

We use cookies for:

  • Functional cookies — Remember your comment information (name, email, site) so you don’t have to retype them. These last up to one year and are set only if you opt in.
  • Login cookies — If you have an account, cookies maintain your login session (2 days, or 14 days if you select “Remember Me”).
  • Security cookies — Wordfence may set cookies to track suspicious activity and protect against attacks.
  • Analytics cookies — If installed, analytics tools (such as Google Analytics) set cookies to track aggregate site usage.
  • Affiliate tracking cookies — When you click an affiliate link, the destination retailer (such as Amazon) sets cookies to attribute your purchase to our referral. These cookies are managed by the retailer, not by us, and follow the retailer’s privacy policy.

You can disable cookies in your browser settings, but parts of the site may not work correctly if you do.

Plugins and Third-Party Services

This site uses the following plugins and services that may process visitor data:

  • Wordfence Security — Security and firewall plugin. Logs IP addresses and login attempts; may share threat data with Wordfence’s central threat intelligence network. See the Wordfence Privacy Policy at https://www.wordfence.com/privacy-policy/.
  • WP Super Cache — A page caching plugin. Does not collect or share personal data.
  • Rank Math SEO (if installed) — SEO optimization plugin. Does not collect personal data from visitors directly. If connected to Google Search Console or Analytics, those services have their own privacy practices.
  • Microsoft 365 — Powers our email infrastructure (admin@ and related addresses). Subject to Microsoft’s Privacy Statement at https://privacy.microsoft.com/.
  • Amazon Associates — Affiliate program. When you click Amazon links, your interaction with Amazon is governed by Amazon’s Privacy Notice at https://www.amazon.com/privacy.
  • Other affiliate networks (Awin, ShareASale, Impact Radius, CJ Affiliate, etc.) — Each operates under its own privacy policy.

Embedded Content

Posts on this site may include embedded content (videos from YouTube/Vimeo, social media posts from TikTok/Instagram/Facebook, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves the same way as if the visitor had visited the other website directly.

These third-party sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content — including tracking your interaction if you have an account and are logged in to that platform.

Media

If you upload images to comments or posts, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website may be able to extract location data from such images.

Who We Share Data With

We share data only as needed to operate the site:

  • Spam protection services (Wordfence, Akismet if enabled) to filter automated abuse
  • Affiliate networks when you click an affiliate link — these networks track that the click came from our site for commission attribution
  • Hosting provider (Arvixe) — server logs are stored on their infrastructure
  • Email provider (Microsoft 365) — emails sent to or from us are processed by Microsoft
  • Analytics providers (if installed) to understand aggregate site usage
  • Legal requirements — we may disclose information if required by law, subpoena, or to protect our rights

If you request a password reset, your IP address will be included in the reset email.

How Long We Keep Data

  • Comments and metadata — retained indefinitely so we can recognize and approve follow-up comments automatically
  • Account information (for registered users) — stored until you request deletion
  • Server logs and security logs — typically retained 30–90 days, then rotated/deleted
  • Email correspondence — retained as long as relevant for the conversation
