Information we use and why
- Messages and comments: When you email us or use a comment form, we receive the information you submit, such as your name, email address, optional website, and message. Published comments are visible to other visitors; do not include children’s private information. We use this information to respond, publish and moderate comments, and prevent abuse.
- Hosting and security: Our hosting provider, Arvixe, and Wordfence security tools may process IP addresses, requested pages, timestamps, browser information and login attempts to deliver the site, diagnose problems and prevent abuse. Server-based traffic reports may summarize these logs. Rejecting Google Analytics does not disable operational or security logs.
- Optional analytics: With your permission, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand readership and improve content. It uses first-party cookie identifiers and processes page paths and a fixed site title, referring pages, browser/device information, approximate geographic information and interactions, including external web-link destinations. Google receives network information, including your IP address, when your browser connects; GA4 states that it does not log or store individual IP addresses. This is pseudonymous measurement, not a promise that all data is anonymous.
Your analytics choice
Google Analytics is off unless you select Accept analytics. Reject analytics is equally available, and you can use the site without accepting. Open Cookie preferences in the footer at any time to change your choice or reject analytics after accepting. Rejection stops future analytics collection in this browser and removes this site’s accessible Google Analytics cookies. Withdrawal does not erase information already collected. Choices apply separately to each browser/device and website; clearing browser storage removes the saved choice.
We keep a versioned, timestamped record of your choice in your browser, using it for 180 days, then ask again; the old local-storage record can remain until replaced or cleared. If we cannot save a preference, analytics remains off. Logged-in WordPress users and browsers explicitly excluded by the site operator are not measured. An operator exclusion takes priority over an analytics acceptance.
Our analytics code strips query strings and fragments from page, referrer and outgoing-link URLs. It does not send comment or form contents, email addresses from mail links, or login information. Advertising personalization and Google signals are disabled, and we have not enabled Google Ads remarketing for this setup. Cookies and browser storage
Our Cookie Policy explains analytics cookies, saved preferences and WordPress functionality. Analytics cookies are configured to expire after 180 days without extending the expiry on every visit; browsers may remove them sooner. Preferences are stored separately from Google’s cookies.
Affiliate links and other providers
Tournament Parent is reader-supported. As an Amazon Associate, Tournament Parent earns from qualifying purchases. Some links are affiliate links: a retailer or affiliate network may attribute a purchase to our referral. Clicking a link takes you to that provider, whose cookies and privacy practices are separate from our analytics choice. See our Affiliate Disclosure and Amazon’s Privacy Notice.
Wordfence may process security and threat information under its Privacy Policy. Email correspondence is processed by our email provider. If an article contains an embedded video or social post, the external provider may receive your IP address and browser information and use its own cookies when that content loads. The analytics controls described here govern our Google Analytics, not every external service. External websites and services have their own privacy policies.
Retention, sharing and international processing
Comments and their moderation metadata may remain while the discussion is published. Account details are retained to administer an account; messages are retained as needed to respond and maintain relevant records. Operational logs are managed according to hosting and security settings. Contact us for information about a particular record or deletion request; some records may need to be retained for security or legal obligations.
Our Google Analytics property is set to retain event-level data for 2 months and user-level data for 14 months, with user retention reset by new activity. These controls do not affect most aggregated standard reports, which can remain longer. Cookie expiry and withdrawing consent do not automatically delete historical reports. We share information with providers as needed to operate, secure and measure the site, and where legally required. We do not use this analytics setup to sell visitor information or for personalized advertising.
Our site and providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Protections may differ from your country; Google’s policy and data-processing terms explain its transfer arrangements. Using the site alone is not consent to optional analytics.
Your rights and children’s privacy
Depending on applicable law, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal data, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, and complain to your local data-protection authority. Optional analytics relies on your consent; essential site delivery, security and responding to requests serve operational and legitimate interests where that legal basis applies. Email the contact above to make a request. We may need information to verify and locate your records, but do not send sensitive identity documents unless specifically needed and securely requested.
This site’s editorial content is intended for parents and adults. We do not ask children to submit personal information. If you believe a child has provided information, or have a concern about youth-related content, contact us so we can review it and take appropriate action.
Changes
We update this page when our practices change. Material changes to optional analytics will require a new choice rather than treating continued browsing as acceptance.
